The Toronto Flute School is now accepting students at its studio near Eglinton Ave. West and Allen Road.

Young students (from age 4) take advantage of the Suzuki Programme where parental guidance and support ensure swift progress. Older students participate in the Ensemble Programme, learning to work independently by developing good practice habits and techniques.

All students receive individual weekly lessons (30 to 60 minutes depending on their level) and bi-weekly group/ensemble classes. Students may also choose to prepare for Royal Conservatory exams, competitions or university auditions.

Biannual group/ensemble concerts, yearly recitals, and masterclasses and workshops are also an integral part of the curriculum.

Toronto Flute School Director Vicki Blechta received a BMus in Performance from McGill University and a MMus in Performance from the University of Toronto. She taught at the Royal Conservatory of Music for 18 years -- and was also a member of the Board of Examiners -- before establishing the Toronto Flute School in 1998. Her teachers have included Louis Moyse, Andre Jaunet and Jeanne Baxtresser. She has also trained extensively in the Suzuki Method and studied with Toshio Takahashi, founder of the Suzuki Method for flute. The Toronto Flute School has the largest Suzuki flute program in the GTA.

Many of Ms Blechta's former pupils have gone on to success as university students and graduates, teachers and professional musicians.

Vicki Blechta herself has an active career as a chamber musician; her ensemble, Musica Viva, has toured in Canada and Europe, given radio and television performances at home and abroad, and released two CDs, Entre Nous and In Essence, both to critical acclaim.

Les leçons sont aussi offertes en français.
